We had the pleasure of chatting with Bree, the talented owner of Glamour Cake, to learn more about her bustling bakery and how she’s been making the most of Foodprint.
Nestled in the heart of Lyttelton, Christchurch, Glamour Cake has become a beloved staple in the local community and a must-visit destination for Cantabrians. Bree started this thriving business nearly 10 years ago when she was in her early twenties, and it’s been a sweet success ever since.
Bree started out creating wedding cakes but quickly realised that wasn’t for her. “Everyone just wants to eat a slice of cake”, she says, “So then it turned into cake slices. It turned into cheesecake slices, and then it turned into donuts. Now it's turned into cookies. It's crazy. It's just this giant continuous sugar wheel rolling around just getting bigger and bigger and bigger”.

It’s easy to see how much the community loves her creations as her hard-working staff are continuously restocking the cabinets, with both old favourites and new flavours. The shop caters to a wide range of clientele. During our conversation, I see a steady stream of curious children, sweaty tradies, travelling tourists and everyone in between.
Bree didn’t want her business to be just another Bakery. “So Glamour Cake is like not your average Joe bakery”, she says, “It is everything you can think of in a bakery, plus 10 times smaller, yeah, so you've got all of your delicious pies and sandwiches. So we can serve all of our tradies, but then we also have everything you can imagine that's sweet. So it's kind of like a sweet store on steroids, but it's also a beautiful Bakery Cafe all in one”.

The vision for the bakery is ever-evolving. “My vision changes for sure, sort of every three or four years”’, states Bree, “When I first started, I kind of thought, I really wanted to be more than one shop. And then as I started realising the amount of people that were travelling to us, I was just like, we're actually a destination. So my vision is just small and humble, you know, like, there's no need to get crazy and big. I just really like the fact that we make a small batch of food, we have a really beautiful team, and we work together to pump out this really gorgeous product that is made with love every single day”
Baking is something that’s in Bree’s blood, her father was a baker and they even worked together to come up with the name Glamour Cake. Bree says: “I learned my trade through my dad, and I was doing my apprenticeship at the time when I established Glamour Cake, and I couldn't think of a name, and we were just sitting in the lounge, and dad was like, Glamour Cake. And I was like, I love it. I love it sold. So, yeah, so then we just added to that glamour vibe every time we made something, and here we are, 10 years later”.

Glamour Cake has been part of the Foodprint family for over six months now selling both savoury and sweet mystery boxes. When asked why she wanted to join Foodprint Bree stated “I thought Foodprint was a fantastic idea when I first saw it come up on Instagram. I just thought this is such a fabulous way of saving food. It's so disheartening when you have so much stuff left at the end of the day and you just want to give it away to people because you don't want to waste the food. So, when I found Foodprint, I just thought, you guys are geniuses. Please sign me up. Let's save the food!”
Bree’s passion for baking and her dedication to reducing food waste has made Glamour Cake a standout in the Lyttelton community and beyond. Her creativity, commitment to quality, and warm approach to business shine through in every donut, cookie pie and of course cake her team creates. After all, Bree says she’s just “a girl that loves making cake and really enjoys making people happy through food”.
