The 8th of March is International Women’s Day, this is a time for us all to join forces to celebrate and empower wāhine everywhere. The Foodprint team is proudly an all-female team, and not only that, around 50% of our eateries are women-led. This International Women’s Day we wanted to highlight some of our many fantastic female-led eateries around Aotearoa.

Ōtautahi- Pierogi joint
Pierogi Joint in Ōtautahi, Christchurch is run by Kate who migrated to Aotearoa from Canada and has been a proud Kiwi ever since. Kate grew up eating Pierogi and wanted to be able to share the tasty European-style dumpling with not just her family but with all of New Zealand, so she started Pierogi Joint. Since 2022, Pierogi Joint and Foodprint have been partners in the fight against food waste. If you’re not able to rescue her Pierogi from her factory in Ōtautahi, don’t worry, you can head to her website to find a stockist near you!

Ōtepoti - ChuChu Bakehouse
ChuChu Bakehouse in Ōtepoti Dunedin is owned by Ciel. The bakery operates out of an adorable pink food truck that often frequents many locations around the city, including Otago University and St Clair. This bakery on wheels not only sells French and Asian inspired pastries but also offers free puppy pats from their croissant doggo. To stay up to date with where you can find ChuChu, follow them on the app, or on Facebook.

Rotorua - Goody Goodies
Laura runs Goody Goodies, one of Rotorua’s tastiest bakeries. Growing up, Laura loved baking with her nan and aunties who taught her the secrets to creating the perfect sweets. Now she proudly runs her own bakery specialising in loaded brownies. Luckily for those of us who don’t live in Rotorua, you can buy her tasty brownies online.

Te Whanganui-a-Tara - Le Ciel
Shuchi is the creative baker and owner behind Le Ciel Bakery in Wellington. They specialise in French-inspired pastries with a unique twist. She loves to be experimental with her baking and has come up with some delectable creations while keeping our dairy-free and vegan friends in mind. Le Ciel just opened their second location, so if you’re in Wellington Central you'll find them on Featherston and Tory Streets!

Tāmaki Makaurau - Luna All Day
Malisa started Luna All Day (formerly Luna Bakehouse) in 2019, originally she focused on Vietnamese cuisine inspired by her upbringing in Hanoi’s Old Quarter. The cafe is named Luna after her mother, who has been her biggest influence and supporter and also inspired her love for cooking. They’ve now expanded to four locations around Auckland and offer a delightful array of pastries, coffee and other treats. Fun fact, the first Luna location in Chancery opened the same week Foodprint started and they jumped on board right away, making them one of our very first eateries. Michal and Mal like to joke about their business-babies growing up together.

Tāmaki Makaurau & Kirikiriroa - Little ‘Lato
Little ‘Lato was founded by ice cream fanatic Hannah, who created the company after graduating from Carpigiani Gelato University in Bologna, Italy. After graduation, Hannah's goal was to bring the Italian style iced treat to New Zealand. Last year we welcomed their Hamilton store to the whānau, their new Ponsonby location is also now on the app. Don’t stress if you’re not in Hamilton or Auckland, you can find their interestingly flavoured gelato all over the country.
Though we’ve only mentioned a handful of the over 250 women who lead eateries that are part of the Foodprint whānau, we’re so grateful to help so many wāhine Accelerate Action, reduce their business carbon footprint and fight food waste together!
